Cabbage Juice

the glucosinolates found in cabbage increase the body’s ability to detoxify damaging chemicals and hormones.
The cabbage is the king of the now prestigious cruciferous family, which includes superstars such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collards, and kale. Forget about keeping up with the Joneses; of all vegetable families, the cabbage household contains more demonstrable anticancer phytochemical talent then all others on the block. And this is a vegetable full of history. Cabbage and the fermented dish, sauerkraut, were first introduced to the United States by early German settlers, and the affiliation was so strong that these smart-eating Germans were referred to as Krauts. Cabbage was also a mainstay during the great depression but, unfortunately, was often overcooked and garnished with fat.

Phytochemicals & Antioxidants in Cabbage Juice

The phytochemical compounds that have made the cruciferous family famous are glucosinolates. The four that have been getting all the attention are indole-3-carbinol, sulforaphane, di-indolmethane, and isothiocyanates. Simply said, the glucosinolates found in cabbage work by stimulating antioxidant defense mechanisms while increasing the body’s ability to detoxify damaging chemicals and hormones, e.g., excess estrogen.

As early as the 1950s, the research of Dr. Garnett Cheney from Stanford University School of medicine showed that fresh cabbage juice is extremely effective in treating peptic ulcers, even after only seven days. The antiulcer property in cabbage was later identified as the delicate amino acid called glutamine, which encourages the growth and regeneration of the cells that line the digestive tract.

As an added bonus, the mineral selenium in cabbage is excellent for fighting cancer, protecting against heart disease, improving conditions of arthritis, slowing the aging process, giving beautiful skin, and increasing male potency.

Make the Ultimate Cabbage Juice
Preparing for Juicing
Rinse and cut into hopper-sized sections.
I have spent over twenty years juicing thousands of pounds of produce and tried just about ever juicer on the market. I can confidently say that our Juice Nut Top Pick Juicers are the very best in workmanship, warranty, juice yield and juice quality. I’m nuts about these juicers!
Cabbage Juice Tips
The amino acid glutamine is very fragile, so it’s best to drink as quickly as possible when using cabbage juice to heal digestive disorders. Consumption within 60 seconds is best.
Picking Perfect Produce
It’s hard to pick a bad cabbage. Look for firm, dense heads, free from cracks, bruises, and blemishes.
Storing Your Produce
Cabbage stores very well, and whole heads will keep up to a month in the crisper. Once cut, use quickly due to the rapid loss of vitamin C. So much for cole slaw!
Taste Combos
If you are treating digestive disorders such as ulcers, I recommend drinking cabbage juice on its own. Swish the first mouthful with saliva. If the taste is too intense, mix with apple. Cabbage is a great addition to any veggie juice combination.

It does wonders for my Crohn's. I swear that I can feel it going right to work on my small intestine after a cup or so of red cabbage juice. I swig 2 or 3 tbsps of virgin cold pressed coconut oil immediately before the juice to help absorb everything that it has to offer. Great information.

Just getting over an ulcer attack that sent me to the hospital. The pure cabbage juice my wife just made me was very harsh to my throat and didn't feel so good going down. A little more info on softening the taste/best time following an attack would help a lot.
