Lime Juice

Limes contain some interesting anticancer and antioxidant phytochemicals, which include flavonoids and the added bonus of limonene.
When vitamin C-rich limes were discovered to prevent scurvy among the British sailors, these hard-living men were called “limeys”—but never to their faces, I’m sure. How many nicknames do you know that are based on the type of fruit someone eats? I may be known as the Juice Nut, but if I were to be nicknamed after my favorite fruit, friends would call me Mango Man, and enemies would shake in fear. Sounds like a superhero in the making.

Phytochemicals & Antioxidants in Lime Juice
Like lemons, limes contain some interesting anticancer and antioxidant phytochemicals, which include flavonoids and the added bonus of limonene. Research has shown that lime juice is able to influence cell cycles; in particular, it affects the decision about whether a cell divides or dies. This is significant in the area of cancer tumor death. Lime juice is also showing fascinating properties as an antibiotic. In West Africa, during a major cholera outbreak, subjects who were given lime juice with their meals were strongly protected from developing cholera.
Make the Ultimate Lime Juice
Preparing for Juicing
Thinly cut away the outer skin, leaving the white pith, which is loaded with cancer-fighting phytochemicals.
I have spent over twenty years juicing thousands of pounds of produce and tried just about ever juicer on the market. I can confidently say that our Juice Nut Top Pick Juicers are the very best in workmanship, warranty, juice yield and juice quality. I’m nuts about these juicers!
Lime Juice Tips
I love to squeeze a wedge or two of lime into my glass of water. I find it tastes even better than lemon, and has the added benefit of the phytochemical, limonene.
Picking Perfect Produce
Limes should be dark green and heavy, promising juicy fruit. Avoid limes with brown or purple spots.
Storing Your Produce
Will keep well for a week on the counter and longer in the crisper. Once juiced, it will keep well for three days in the fridge.
Taste Combos
You can replace lemons with limes when making veggie juice. I find both do a great job in mellowing the heavy pungent taste of mixed veggie juice. Also, fresh lime juice mixed with water and sucanat (dehydrated sugarcane juice) on ice makes great limeade and, unlike the name-brand offerings, is full of nutrients.
