Welch's Red Grape Juice

This has to be one of my favorite go-to juices during a fast, especially on those long, hard working days where lots of energy is needed, or detox days when weak and miserable. One large glass of Welch's red grape juice and within minutes I can feel the energy coursing through my veins.

With all the grape juice brands on the market, why Welch's? Are they sponsoring this site? No, it has to do the science behind the juice.  Unlike many of the other, cheaper juice companies, Welsh's uses 100% concord grapes, which has the highest concentration of polyphenols and flavonoids. Most of these phytochemicals are within the skin and seeds of the grape. Unless you own a $3,000 juice press, your juicer will extract very little of these vital nutrients. I used to juice grapes often and found what poured out of the juicer had very little pigment—not a good sign—because with grape juice, color says it all.

Welch's presses the entire grape—skin, seeds and all, resulting in a deep purple juice. Although it is true that the fermentation process does extract more of the polyphenols and flavonoids from the grape, pressing is the next best thing. Dollar for dollar, you will actually get more nutrients from buying a high quality grape juice then trying to juice the grapes yourself.

Welch's is not the only brand that produces a quality grape juice. Health stores will carry organic Concord grape juice, if you can afford the higher price.
